Content writing is now a very common professional practice both online and offline. English or any language for that matter is spoken by many but the number is drastically reduced when it comes to writing with flair. However, content writers often struggle to survive in the professional world with low productivity of words. The Internet is full of articles, blogs and write-ups about enhancing the quality of content writing. But, very few of them have touched the issue of low productivity or how productivity in content writing can be increased. But before, moving on with the main concern, it should be noted that content writing generally serves two different areas; namely academic and web. Academic writing only includes research papers, essays and dissertations which determine the academic future of main students. On the other hand, web content caters various topics to a very wide range of readers. Irrespective of these types, a content writer must be consistent with a standard productivity to obtain the salary and clients’ requirement.
Content writers are bound by a deadline. They must have a general but intelligent planning to carry out and finish each project with the highest possible quality and without compromising with productivity. It is true that not all topics tend to comply with that intelligent planning. But surely a writer would be able to have a consistent progress in the most difficult tasks. Intelligent planning includes dividing the total word count in every hour and aiming to cover an average word count daily. A separate period of time for research should be allotted and both research and writing should never be done simultaneously in the same hour. The general average hourly target of an experienced content writer usually ranges between 500-600 words. In addition to that, the writer should try to meet a target of 2500-3000. Writing can progress uninterrupted if all the materials are handy. A writer can only focus on meeting this hourly and daily target and really optimize productivity if the research is done properly. At least an hour or two should be spared for research. Often, writers directly jump to write only by reading the title. This reduces the scope of the content is informative.
Most of the writers perceive the word count of a particular assignment as the prime concern. But they fail to understand that if the materials are ample and relevant, then it is a piece of cake to write pages after pages on that particular topic. Therefore, the writers must focus on a broad and prolonged research for the assignment. In fact, research is the key to acquiring higher and consistent productivity. It is very important for any kind of content writing to obtain a clear understanding of the topic in order to the convey the intention of the content. If it is academic, then information must be sourced from authentic sites journals and books. If it is web content, then the writer must attract reaction and response from the readers through his/her original and informative writing. The point is if all these processes are already sorted, then the writer would be able to focus on intelligent planning mentioned earlier to improve content writing productivity.
Writing is not something you can do along with other things. A writer must not even think about anything else while writing. In order to improve writing, it is very important to stay focused and ignore irrelevant things such as surfing social media, chatting etc. In this way only, the productivity can be improved as one would be doing only writing. It is better to set working hours (especially for the freelancers and those who work from home) and dedicate those hours only for work. Writing is a continuous process and operated by the human brain. Creativity is a skill that mainly drives writing and writing are accelerated by rapt attention focus.
Break from Writing
As writing is a very mentally strenuous job, one should take break alternatively. Content writing is done on the computer and normally doctors advise to take a break at every 20 minutes. But this creates an obstacle to the writing flow and reduces productivity. However, taking a break is very necessary for content writing. Therefore, a writer can relax for 15 minutes after every hour and take a break of a full hour for lunch or so. This enhances productivity by allowing the writer to start afresh every hour.
Writing as a process is meant to evolve both externally and internally. Moreover, the writer should keep continuously updated with the latest information. Lack of information often slows down productivity altogether. Use of language also gets updated. The tone, vocabulary and syntax one decade earlier are not same now. Those have changed and a writer must employ the latest writing trend while writing with 100% originality and grammatical correctness. In order to optimize productivity, a writer must not forget that.
These guidelines are really effective for increasing productivity and improving content writing. Every writer has his/her own writing style and these tips can explore the writing skill to a greater extent.
